2014 Summary

The 2014 field season was another huge success thanks to the citizens of Bloomington and the surrounding area. We placed 72 collars on fawns in Morgan and Brown Counties. The first fawn was collared on May 20th and the last on July 2nd. Of the 72 fawns collared, 42 were within Bloomington and 30 were in rural areas. We are continually tracking the fawns and plan to do so through the end of 2014. As of July 5th, we have retrieved 18 collars from 14 cases of mortality, 3 slipped collars, and 1 intentionally removed collar. Six mortalities have been documented within Bloomington; 3 due to vehicle collisions and 3 from coyote predation. Of the 8 mortalities in rural areas, 7 were attributed to coyote predation and 1 from an unknown cause.

Most of our fawns are staying close to their birth site, and many residents are continually informing us with sightings. We are grateful for the overwhelming interest and cooperation from the residents of Bloomington and its surrounding area. We look forward to continuing our tracking this fall as well as analyzing the data from the 2013 and 2014 field seasons. We are excited to share our findings with the Bloomington community.

Thank you again for all the support!
